2 professionals laughingly ruined their careers in 24 seconds on Twitch

In Overwatch 2, 2 pro players from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have now got themselves a permanent ban from all tournaments. You made fun of a trans caster in a Twitch streamer. A tweet of the behavior went viral.

In what situation was that?

  • Qualifying matches for the Overwatch World Championship are currently running, also in the “EMEC” region (Europe and the Middle East)
  • Saudi Arabia is in Group B along with Germany, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Finland and Iceland.
  • As part of the Overwatch Path to Pro event, 2 pro players commentated a match between Saudi Arabia and Poland, venting anti-trans comments before the match. One professional is called Majed “Alivelol” Alqudaibi (27), he comes from Saudi Arabia. The other professional involved was Mohammed “Legendary” Saif (21), he is from the United Arab Emirates. Both are 2nd line players who have earned around $2,000 in prize money playing Overwatch.

What do the two pros say on Twitch? Said:

  • “Why do you have a monkey [als Caster]”
  • “Are animals allowed?”
  • “Why is a pig commenting on the game?”
  • The two laugh happily and amuse each other. As the site Dotesports reports, the comments were for a transsexual caster.

What’s the reaction? A section of the Twitch clip caused outrage on Twitter.

It was even discussed whether it would not be better to exclude Saudi Arabia from Overwatch altogether, since the country’s homophobia and transphobia were incompatible with Overwatch’s values.

But others disagreed: You can’t punish the team for the behavior of individuals.

There was a general mood on Twitter that Blizzard would not do anything anyway. But that was a mistake.

Liga permanently bans both pros from all tournaments

This is the consequence: The two pros will be banned from all events, both as casters and players.

The league reminds of the code of conduct: Such language is forbidden.

Saudi Arabia won the game against Poland and everyone else in the qualifiers and is currently 1st with 4-0. Germany is 5th with 1-2.
