The 19-year-old man who was charged with the double murder of his mother and brother in Luleå earlier this year will be sentenced to forensic psychiatric care, the Luleå district court announced on Thursday.
According to the district court, the act was committed “under the influence of a serious mental disorder” and meant “severe suffering” for both the mother and the brother.
It was early in the morning on March 9 this year that the 19-year-old attacked his mother while she was eating breakfast at home in the villa. When the man’s older brother came to rescue the mother, he too was attacked.
The father, who was also in the home and witnessed parts of the crime, managed to escape his son and call 112.
When the police and ambulance arrived at the residence, both the mother and brother were found dead, having been stabbed several times.
Sentenced to forensic psychiatric care
In the police’s preliminary investigation report, it is possible to read about how the 19-year-old waited until the mother sat down at the kitchen table and then went up behind her and stabbed her with a knife. The brother, who came out of his room shortly afterwards, became the next victim of the attack.
The preliminary investigation report also shows pictures from the bloodied villa, a collection of knives standing on a chest of drawers and of the 19-year-old in custody – bloody on both his face and hands.
Already in the initial questioning, the 19-year-old admitted that he had murdered his family members with a knife, and on Thursday the Luleå district court announced that he will be sentenced to forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge examination for the murders.
According to the district court, the act was committed “under the influence of a serious mental disorder” and meant “severe suffering” for both the mother and the brother.
The 19-year-old is also sentenced for grossly unlawful threats against the father.
