More communication, self-discovery and vigilance in love. This is the new mantra of Generation Z for the year 2024. According to a study, 18-25 year olds want more fulfillment in their relationships, far from emotional manipulation and toxic behavior.
For 2024, Generation Z seems to want to say goodbye to bad love habits. According to a new study by the YouGov institute, in partnership with the dating application Fruitz, young digital natives want to turn their backs on toxic relationships and focus more on self-discovery.
This survey was carried out among 1000 respondents aged 18-25. They had to answer questions focused on sexuality and their expectations in terms of a romantic relationship. On the theme of sexuality, 22% of respondents would like to “try new practices” within their relationships, and 21% would like to “know themselves better and identify their own desires”. Among the women surveyed, 17% consider it important to think more about their personal sexual pleasure. However, the pleasure of others is not negligible, and would also appear among the priorities of those surveyed.
As for communication within the couple, 21% of the young people questioned called for a more uninhibited discussion and no longer wanted taboos. In the same vein, 26% plan to no longer tolerate toxic behaviors and relationships. As confirmed by other previous studies, 18-25 year olds wish to develop healthier relationships and emphasize the importance of oneself in love.
And for this, the respondents are arming themselves with vigilance. In recent years, a colony of new terms has been created to identify toxic behavior within a couple. We have seen it with ghostlighting, spider webbing, and even Marleying. The study tells us that 21% of respondents want to be “more attentive to red flags”, from the start of a romance and 18% want “to be more able to identify their expectations”.
