The berry of the Gelderland rose is as red and glassy as a Kir Royal and the berry of the elder is deep black. But the most beautiful berry is the cardinal’s hat, says Schröder. “Just those colors, pink and orange, isn’t that beautiful? Not for us to eat, by the way, because it is super poisonous.” Yet the robin, for example, can eat the grosbeak without any problems. “That’s fascinating, that there are birds that can eat something that is so poisonous to us,” says Zoëy.
