Zlatan Ibrahimovic got a lot of eyes on him when he was there during the World Cup final.
Now he speaks for the first time about the visit.
With a real tribute to the championship.
“Unforgettable”, he writes.
Before, during and after the World Cup final between Argentina and France on Sunday, the TV camera got stuck on more than one occasion in the VIP stands. It was full of celebrities to say the least, and some of the biggest legends from football history were in Qatar, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic was no exception.
First words about the visit
Ibrahimovic was invited by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and was seen in a picture with, among others, his wife Helena, but also Juventus star Paul Pogba and tennis icon Novak Djokovic. Ibrahimovic received many headlines during the visit, partly because Qatar was criticized so harshly before and during the championship, but also because of how he acted during the match.
When it became clear that Argentina was world champion, emotions were strong in many quarters. But Ibrahimovic was completely unfazed in the stands, while Lionel Messi dropped to his knees and was embraced by teammates. On social media, many interpreted it as Zlatan wanting France to win, and that he did not wish Lionel Messi the success. However, Ibrahimovic has kept quiet about his visit to the World Cup final, until now.

Zlatan’s tribute
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has posted a picture of him on social media, together with PSG boss Al-Khelaifi and Novak Djokovic, where he praises Qatar and the World Cup to the skies.
“Thank you for an unforgettable stay and a World Cup final in Qatar that will remain in the history books forever,” he captioned the photo.
The image itself is not entirely uncontroversial. Al-Khelaifi is the chairman of Qatar Sports Investment, and behind many of the investments made in the country’s sports ventures. Just a week or so ago, he was clear that the much-talked-about One Love bandages do not belong during a World Cup, and that politics and sport have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Novak Djokovic has also been mentioned during the year. He was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open because he had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, and since then he has continued to refuse to show documentation of whether he is vaccinated or not.
