Zlatan Ibrahimovic was not a big fan of David Beckham.
In fact, he didn’t even know who he was.
At least if author David Lagercrantz is to be believed.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s book “I am Zlatan” is a Swedish classic. There, Zlatan spoke candidly about growing up in Rosengård, about the breakthrough in Malmö FF and the matchless career that followed.
The author reveals
David Lagercrantz wrote the book after hundreds of hours of conversations with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and it was a success as the book is undoubtedly one of the most read ever in Sweden. Lagercrantz has said that he portrays Zlatan in the book just as Ibrahimovic himself told everything, but during the time when the book came out, Lagercrantz undoubtedly also heard the occasional funny story.
Before the work on the book, which was released in 2011, Lagercrantz told Zlatan Ibrahimovic, among other things, that he had recently read David Beckham’s autobiography, for inspiration.
– I told him that I had read it and that the book was very boring, actually, Lagercrantz has said in an interview with the English Telegraph.

The sawing of Beckham
And Zlatan Ibrahimovic was not surprised. Instead, he delivered an answer as good as only Zlatan can – and those are the cockiest words ever.
– Zlatan had a very good answer: “Who the hell is Beckham?”.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic later, during his time at PSG, became a teammate with David Beckham and they both then became friends. Whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic didn’t even know who Beckham, for a few years the world’s biggest star, was or not, we leave it unsaid. But given that they met in the national team, it was probably just a classic, cocky saying by the icon Ibrahimovic.
