The presidential and legislative elections of August 23 already promise to be tense, as the regime in place has been trying for months to muzzle the opposition. The race will be played between outgoing President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who succeeded Robert Mugabe, and the main opponent, Nelson Chamisa, at the head of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).
