(Finance) – “Today we are adopting a fundamental measure for Italy and which will contribute to designing the development policy of the South for the next three years, namely the Strategic plan for the unique special economic zone of Southern Italy”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this, according to reports, at the meeting for the adoption of the Single Zes strategic plan.
There Single ZES – Meloni explained further – replaces the previous eight ZES limited to the hinterland areas which did not function as they should haveoe, thanks to a serious discussion with the European Commission, extends the benefits of the special economic zone to the entire territory of all the Regions of our Mezzogiorno. All the territories of the South will thus be able to enjoy the same opportunities for growth and development: administrative simplifications, tax benefits and a coordinated framework of interventions and investments.
“It is a measure in which I personally believe a lot, and in which the Government believes a lot because its objective is to guarantee the South the possibility of competing on equal terms. It is part of a development model based on competitiveness, investments, freedom of enterprise and the valorization of human capital”.
“We looked at the Mediterranean, at the new geopolitical framework, at the major transformations underway in the energy markets and from here we designed the development strategy of the single ZES. It is a framework in which the South has all the credentials to contribute to the strategic autonomy of Italy and Europe”.
“And in this sense the single ZES is a brick in addition that we are putting in to build that new model of cooperation, development and partnership with Africa that is the basis of the Mattei Plan, which the Parliament is discussing in these hours, and which identifies Italy as a bridge between the African continent and Europe. The strategic objective that we set ourselves is to make the South a place where it is convenient to invest. And it is an opportunity within our reach, because the Single ZES of the South will be the largest special economic zone in Europe by number of inhabitantsand will surpass Poland’s record, which also constitutes good practice at international level”, the Prime Minister further underlined.
“I would like to emphasize that the approval of this strategic plan, which was expected by July 31, is the result of a strategy, a vision. Now we will have to implement it and work on it. It’s a great challenge that we are ready for.”said the Minister for European Affairs, Cohesion Policies, the South and the PNRR, Raffaele Fitto, at the end of the approval of the strategic plan for the single Zes, noting that the green light arrived within the deadline of 31 July.
