Zendaya starred in a brilliant sci fi series on Netflix

Where hasn’t Zendaya been seen yet? The star of the Dune films and the Spider-Man trilogy has already had many career stages. In addition to her cinema blockbusters, she was seen in the exceptional series Euphoria; as is well known, she got her start on the Disney Channel. But hardly anyone knows that she was cast for three episodes in a fantastic sci-fi highlight on Netflix: The O.A.

Who does Zendaya play in Netflix’s sci-fi series The OA?

The OA revolves around a young woman named Prairie (Brit Marling) who reappears in her hometown long after disappearing without a trace. From now on she will only call herself OA, she has mysterious scars and has decided to free other disappeared people. She only wants to tell five people her dark secret.

The series, a mix of sci-fi and mystery, was well received by critics and audiences. A second season followed from 2019 surprised with a Zendaya appearance in three episodes: Her character Fola lives in an alternative future in an institution that is supposed to cure the inmates of their video game addiction. Over the course of the story, Fola supports the main character, Detective Karim (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who has set out to search for Prairie.

Her appearance in the series is no longer known to many today. And there are reasons for that: A few months after the release of the second season, Netflix surprisingly canceled the series. Stunned fans initially thought it was a trick, but unfortunately the decision turned out to be pure seriousness. To this day, it is still considered by many to be one of the best sci-fi series on Netflix.

Zendaya will have coped well with the pain of being dropped, after all, her popularity has only increased in the last six years. In addition to her action blockbusters, she starred in Luca Guadagnino’s masterful Challengers and the acclaimed Netflix drama Malcolm & Marie. Recently, she has also been able to claim one of the greatest honors in the current Hollywood industry: she has been cast in the next Christopher Nolan film.
