These days, Zendaya can easily choose her roles. Thanks to Hollywood blockbusters such as the Spider-Man and Dune films or her involvement in the hit series Euphoria, the former Disney Channel star has long been a big name in the acting business.
But over 10 years ago things looked different and Zendaya practically begged for a fantasy role. The film has now grown into a major Disney franchise.
Zendaya really wanted to star in Disney’s Descendants
According to TVLine, Cornelia Frame, the former vice president of casting for Disney Channel, appeared as a guest on the Magical Rewind podcast to discuss Zendaya’s efforts to land a role in 2015’s Descendants:
Zendaya auditioned for Descendants many times and it was a big deal. It was a really big deal. She kept auditioning and wanted it so badly. In the end, things just didn’t go the way she wanted them to.
According to Frame, Zendaya’s failure probably led to another major role success:
When I think about it now, I ask myself: ‘Would Spider-Man have happened at exactly the same time?’ Things happen for a reason, and you often book that other thing that’s amazing when you don’t get anything else. Zendaya definitely put so much effort and work into it, too.
