According to the news agency Reuters, it is in a speech to Ukrainian diplomats, published on the president’s website, that he expresses his vision.
– We are working on making it happen this autumn. Autumn is very soon, but there is still time to prepare the summit and involve most of the world’s countries, says the president.
More participants
On August 5-6, an official-level meeting will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with 40 countries represented. The aim is to gather broad global support for Ukraine in the war against Russia. Russia is thus not invited to the meeting.
A similar meeting was held in Copenhagen in June, and according to CNN, President Zelenskyi’s chief of staff Andrii Yermak writes on Telegram that his team is now preparing “the second meeting at the level of national security advisers and political advisers”.
This time it is hoped to increase the number of participants to include countries from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
A unified vision
According to the state leadership in Kiev, the meeting will be devoted to the basic principles of peace based on President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s peace formula.
“Our goal in Saudi Arabia is to develop a unified vision and to work out the possibilities of holding a future global peace summit,” writes Yermak further.
The ten-point plan for peace that Zelensky presented to G20 leaders in Bali last November includes a full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, a complete withdrawal of Russian troops, protection of food and energy security, release of all prisoners and a special tribunal for alleged Russian war crimes.
