Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi demands a resolution condemning energy terrorism from the UN Security Council. Russia’s veto in the Security Council is likely to prevent any kind of measures.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi called on the UN Security Council to take action and stop Russian attacks on Ukraine’s vital infrastructure.

Zelenskyi said via a remote connection in his video speech on Wednesday evening Finnish time that the 70 missiles fired by Russia on Wednesday are terrorism.

He added that Ukraine expects a truly unwavering reaction to the missile strikes from the whole world.

– The world cannot be held hostage by one international terrorist, Zelenskyi said.

Zelenskyi demanded that the Security Council make a clear assessment of the actions of the terrorist state in accordance with the UN Charter.

– Ukraine proposes the Security Council to draw up a resolution that condemns all forms of energy terrorism, Zelenskyi said in his speech.

The Reuters news agency says that since Russia is one of the members of the Security Council with the right to veto, it is very unlikely that the UN Security Council would take any practical measures.

That’s why Zelenskyi demanded in his speech that Russia be completely denied a vote in the decision-making regarding its military actions.

– Russia is doing everything to make the power generator a more powerful tool than the UN Charter.

Zelenskyi: “A clear crime against humanity”

In his video speech, Zelenskyi also said that the missile strikes aimed at the Russian electricity grid are a clear crime against humanity. According to him, the attacks have taken away electricity, water and heating from millions of people, while the temperature in the country has dropped to below zero.

On Wednesday, in Kiev, for example, the distribution of electricity and water was completely cut off due to airstrikes.

Zelenskyi also said that he would ask the UN to send experts to investigate and assess Ukraine’s most important infrastructure in case of attacks that have already occurred and may occur later.

Russia’s UN ambassador spoke at the Security Council meeting Vasili Nebenzja admitted after Zelenskyi’s speech that Russia attacked Ukraine’s electricity grid. He justified the attacks by saying that the electricity grid supports the Ukrainian army.

Nebenzja claimed that the civilian destruction in Ukraine was caused by, among other things, Ukraine’s missile defense.
