Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has landed in the United States for a surprise visit to US President Joe Biden at the White House.
Three hours later, the two leaders attended a joint press conference. Biden again paid tribute to Zelensky and the Ukrainian people.
– The light will always win over the darkness, and hope drives away despair. We will always stand by your side. I want you and all of Ukraine to know that, he said.
It is Zelenskyi’s first trip outside of Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of the country in February.
The visit comes on the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his top military leaders to lay out military plans for 2023.
