President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi says that according to Ukrainian information, there may soon be up to 12,000 North Korean soldiers in the country’s border areas.
– It is of course an escalation, Zelenskyi told reporters in Iceland.
He met the Nordic prime ministers on Monday at an event organized in connection with the session week of the Nordic Council. Finland was represented at the meeting by the Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (collect.).
Zelenskyi emphasized that he believes that Russia will use North Korean soldiers against Ukraine. He said he was sometimes surprised by the message repeated by Ukraine’s prominent partners that certain borders should not be crossed.
– But Russia is already doing that, he said.
The military alliance NATO confirmed today that North Korean soldiers have been moved to Russia’s Kursk region. The US Department of Defense estimates that there would be around 10,000 North Koreans.
Also featured is China’s role as an enabler of war
Zelenskyi criticized Iran and North Korea and China’s cooperation with Russia. According to Zelensky, the Iranians and the Russians are having a “deep dialogue” about handing over the missiles to Russia.
Zelenskyi called China a big problem and said that Ukraine believes China is working with Russia. North Korea has also sold and given missiles and millions of artillery shells to Russia, Zelenskyi said.

Orpo: The most important way to strengthen Finland’s security
The Nordic countries assured that the countries’ strong support for Ukraine will continue and showed their support for Ukraine’s plan aimed at victory.
Zelenskyi thanked the Nordic countries for their continued support throughout the war of aggression. Zelenskyi especially thanked Finland for hosting the meeting of the subsection on environmental security of the Ukrainian peace initiative.
In his speech, Prime Minister Orpo emphasized that supporting Ukraine is the most important way to strengthen Finland’s own security as well. Orpo stated that Finland has already made 25 decisions on granting aid to Ukraine and the next decision is being prepared.
– Significant and well-coordinated aid must continue to be our strategic goal.
