President Volodymyr Zelensky wants the support of African countries. He therefore left the door of dialogue ajar for a negotiated outcome to the conflict with Russia. The involvement of African leaders is therefore highly desired by kyiv.
This interview comes as African states have repeatedly appeared divided on what to do with Moscow since the start of the war.

Reaffirming its adherence to the principles of non-alignment and the peaceful settlement of disputes President Embaló has promised to travel to Kyiv with the current Chairman of the African Union, Macky Sall, in September.
Guinea-Bissau, which holds the rotating presidency of ECOWAS, is one of 58 countries that abstained in the April 7 vote of the UN General Assembly suspending Russia from the Human Rights Council in because of the invasion of Ukraine.
