Zecira Musovic’s cheeky stroke of genius in the feat match – the Swedish World Cup hero lied to his teammate: “I’m ashamed”

Zecira Musovic stepped forward as a great hero for Sweden.
Now she reveals that she didn’t just save shots.
But a blue-yellow teammate also helped by lying to her.

Sweden and above all the national team goalkeeper Zecira Musovic stood for a real feat against gold favorite USA in the round of 16 of the World Cup on Sunday morning. Musovic stopped everything during 120 minutes of playing time and in the penalty shootout the Swedes kept their nerves in check the best.

Musovic’s lie

Blågult managed to defeat the Americans after a rough and exciting penalty shootout and is now ready for the World Cup quarter-finals against Japan on Friday morning. But after the match, World Cup hero Musovic reveals that she didn’t just help her team by keeping a clean sheet and saving 11 shots.

When it was most needed, she also stepped forward and helped a teammate with a real stroke of genius. When a very nervous Lina Hurtig was going to take care of the decisive punishment, she had completely forgotten what was important.

“I am ashamed”

Therefore, when she received the ball, Hurtig asked her goalkeeper what would happen if she managed to score. Then a quick-witted Musovic managed to come up with a white lie to calm down the nervous teammate.
– She asked what will happen and I just felt that “mm, I can’t go in and psych you out and say we will win”. So I started talking about something completely different, the accomplished goalkeeper admits to Dagens Nyheter.

Musovic knew that it would be good if Lina Hurtig didn’t know at all about the conditions for her to shoot.
– I don’t remember what I said, but anything but that we were going to win. I felt it is good. Stay there, breathe, take your penalty and then we’ll take the rest later, says the national team goalkeeper in the interview.

It then became a matchless showdown when Hurtig’s penalty was first saved but then got over the goal line and the VAR had to step in to approve the goal. A goal that decided the entire penalty shootout and sent Sweden through to the WC finals after a few nervous seconds of waiting.
– In the end she (the referee) said that “it’s a goal” and then I just went crazy, Hurtig tells DN and is embarrassed by his poor understanding of the rules during the penalty shootout.
– Damn, I’m ashamed that I didn’t know what would happen if I scored. But we would have had another chance if it hadn’t been over the line.
