Hoogland, or the Zandkruuersgat, as the village is called during carnival, has been the scene of one of the largest parades above the rivers for years. “We are more than proud of that,” says Van Wee. The carnival foundation not only makes the float, but organizes the entire party in the village. Next week they will prepare Café Concordia for Carnival again. “It is a close-knit village with many activities. Carnival is alive and well here and is taught at an early age.”
