Next year, James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) will bring his new Superman to the cinema. Actor David Corenswet follows in Henry Cavill’s footsteps as Clark Kent and after the first pictures were recently released, the former DC director Zack Snyder also commented on the early insights.
Zack Snyder casts his critical eye on the new Superman
Eleven years ago, Zack Snyder (Rebel Moon) started his Superman era with Man of Steel. Now he is being replaced by James Gunn as director of the sun-loving alien in the new DCU. Three months ago, we got to see the first official Superman picture from the reboot, which was widely compared to Snyder’s vision. Further snapshots from the set sparked discussions. When asked about his opinion on the new costume, the filmmaker told Comic Book:
Warner Bros.
David Corenswet as the new Superman (2025)
I say this: Let us [das Superman-Kostüm] in the finished film. I’m interested to see how it works as part of the story being told. Yes. But I’m excited. I’m excited to see it.
Even though his DC era is coming to an end, Zack Snyder is still interested in the comic heroes and will not judge costume decisions and the like before he has seen the finished film. Back in April, he made it clear to CBR: “If the Characters treated with reverence become, I’m in.”
Zack Snyder has just released his director’s cut of Rebel Moon 1 and Rebel Moon 2 on Netflix.
When does James Gunn’s new Superman movie come out?
James Gunn’s Superman, originally announced as Superman: Legacy, has a German cinema release on July 10, 2025At that point, Zack Snyder will surely be asked for his opinion again.
In the film, the hero, played by David Corenswet, is supposed to reconcile his alien heritage as Kal-El with his human upbringing as Clark Kent. But is Superman, as the quintessentially American symbol of truth and justice, now seen as old-fashioned?
