YouTuber Takes A Break After 10 Years – Even Bungie Says Thank You!

Stefan “Datto” Jonke is one of the veterans of the Destiny community and is considered an expert in loot shooters. Over a million people follow his YouTube channel. Now he’s taking some time off, and the Destiny 2 developers thank him for his work.

On 06/12 Datto uploaded a video to his YouTube channel announcing that he was taking a break. In the 23 minutes he summarizes his career so far and thanks his community.

Who is Dato? Datto is considered an expert on the shooter in the Destiny community. He himself has been with Destiny 1 since the release, i.e. since 2014. Most recently he upset the Destiny players because he is said to have been responsible for increasing the difficulty.

His personal comments on the game’s problems make him a polarizing figure in the community.

The work “is not just rainbows and sunshine”

Why is Datto taking a break? Datto has been making content on YouTube for 10 years – which the creator says is an eternity in the fast-paced internet. He hasn’t really taken a vacation in all those years and doesn’t know not to work.

Whenever he is not working, he feels guilty and stressed. Datto now wants to find out what it feels like to have a “real break”.

Datto does all the work related to his channel himself. This has led to him thinking about work all the time. Now he wants some rest.

Before he can no longer enjoy his job, he wants to change something because he is now “tired”. He also knows that he is in a privileged situation. But it’s not always just rainbows and sunshine.

What’s next for Datto? He still wants to provide content, but offload some of the work to others. His wish is to produce content, hand it in and call it a day.

Datto now has other duties and tasks, “your boy is growing up,” he says. He wants to be able to enjoy gaming again because he hasn’t been able to for a while.

99% of the people Datto interacts with on a daily basis came from Destiny. He also met his wife because of Destiny.

Datto is so often asked what the alternative would have been. What he would do if he hadn’t become a content creator. His honest answer was: “I don’t know.”

Finally, Datto thanks his community: “I don’t know where I would be without you.”

Bungie thanks him for a decade ‘on the front lines’

How is the community reacting? There are now over 2,000 comments under his YouTube video. The one with the most likes is Bungie’s. The developers of Destiny write there:

Thank you for sticking with us on the front lines for a decade, Datto. Congratulations on your 10 years. We look forward to being by your side in one way or another for the next decade. Cheers!

Other users thank him for his many years of work and support. Greyson Snyder writes, “You are THE Destiny guy. If I want news, I stop by here. You have helped the community a lot. Take some time, relax, do what you have to do.”

Several note that his videos have helped them, but that he well deserves the break. Connor Bennetta writes that Datto is one of the biggest reasons “Destiny has been my favorite game since I was 13.”

However, some Destiny 2 players are so frustrated that they wish it ended forever.
