YouTuber broke both arms on Twitch streamer MontanaBlack’s show – criticizes the event

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

YouTuber Kayla “Kayla Shyx” Loska (20) was one of the contestants on the escape show “Get Away!” by Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris (34). However, the event was overshadowed by an accident in the final game that broke both her arms. In a video she now speaks for the first time about the accident.

What was that event? Twitch streamer MontanaBlack got his own show on streaming platform Joyn in December. “Get Away!” was an escape room format show in which 5 German influencers had to try to break out of a prison.

MontanaBlack himself appeared as co-host and game master.

How did the accident happen? The participants had to face a total of 6 challenges, starting with breaking out of the respective prison cell. In the grand finale, the “Wall of Pain”, they were supposed to break through walls with layers of earth between them.

Kayla Shyx climbed onto a pile of dirt to scale the second wall. She fell backwards and probably tried to catch herself with her hands. The result was painful: she broke both arms, the event ended for her in the hospital. In a YouTube video, she spoke for the first time about the accident.

Here’s how Kayla Shyx experienced the accident: The YouTuber first reports on the first moments after the accident. She was lying on her back and knew immediately that something was wrong: she was in severe pain and saw her bones sticking out from under the skin.

The medical care was rather uncomfortable for Kayla Shyx. So she found the doctor to be quite unfriendly and a paramedic tried to talk to her about the show, which she found inappropriate at the moment.

In the meantime, however, it was clear to her that he probably only wanted to test whether she was still responsive.

Finally, the YouTuber got an injection against the pain. Kayla Shyx describes the following scenes as a “near-death experience”: She was only half conscious and only saw everything in a blur.

Kayla Shyx only regained consciousness in the hospital. However, she was still very disoriented – surrounded by strangers whom she only later recognized as doctors, and with thick bandages on her arms she only got really scared there.

Doctors told Kayla Shyx that she had broken both her arms and needed immediate surgery. At that moment it became too much for the YouTuber:

I didn’t know where I was, how I got there – it was just too much at the moment and then the tears came. Then they rolled […] because I was just so scared. I was alone, I didn’t see anyone I knew.

However, the YouTuber did not let her humor be taken away: she joked with the treating doctors while she was preparing for the operation: “Half on painkillers, half overwhelmed and in shock, but there was still room for jokes,” says Kayla Shyx.

This is how the YouTuber is doing now: Kayla Shyx has since returned home and appears to be doing well given the circumstances. In everyday life, however, she is still severely restricted: since the accident, she has not been able to wash her hair because the movements required are too painful.

The YouTuber’s arms are adorned with bruises of different colors. Kayla Shyx now has a metal plate in her right arm. She’s glad her arms aren’t in a cast, though: instead, all she has to wear is a band-aid and a pair of stylish splints.

“You didn’t expect a woman to make it to the final”

Here’s how Kayla Shyx judged the event: In her video, the YouTuber also criticizes the MontanaBlack event. She was assured in advance that the challenges were gender-unspecific.

That was not the case at all, especially in the final game, according to Kayla Shyx. It was all about physical strength. The YouTuber felt at a disadvantage compared to the other candidates:

You want to tell me that a Knossi who weighs twice as much as me or a Sasha who somehow did kickboxing has the same conditions as me? No! That’s completely based on strength, it has nothing to do with technology.

Kayla Shyx suspects those responsible probably didn’t expect a woman to make it to the final. That was really “abnormally unfair”.

This is particularly annoying because the YouTuber actually wanted to set an example against sexism – especially in the streaming world – with her appearance on the show.

However, Kayla Shyx does not blame the organizers for the accident: Something can always happen at such shows, you simply cannot foresee it. However, the YouTuber also says that if there had been a mattress behind the wall, she probably wouldn’t have broken her arms.

Kayla Shyx wants revenge

Kayla’s message to MontanaBlack: If the show should take place again next year, she definitely wants a place again – but in the final it shouldn’t be about strength and it doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman. Then she will win.

Should the event actually take place again, then probably only with a revised security concept.
