A YouTube experiment conducted last August showed that select users could identify a song by humming it. The feature rolled out widely on the YouTube app for Android phones in October, and now it looks like the YouTube Music app is on the verge of getting this useful song identification feature as well.
YouTube Music brings song recognition through humming
At least one user on Reddit appears to have enabled the feature, albeit in the YouTube Music app for iOS. The corresponding screenshot shows how this new song search feature will have its own button next to the search bar and microphone icon in the YouTube Music app.
Unfortunately, this new song search function doesn’t seem to be widely available. I had no luck finding this feature on the iPhone or Pixel smartphone, and the folks at 9to5Google were also unable to spot it on their own devices. However, its appearance in the iOS version of YouTube Music is a strong indication that song identification is on its way to YouTube Music.
