Your Electric Bike Battery Will Last Much Longer With This Trick

Your Electric Bike Battery Will Last Much Longer With This

The cost of a new battery for your e-bike is considerable. Luckily, there are several ways to extend battery life so you can enjoy it as long as possible.

With these simple tips, you can make your e-bike battery last longer, and enjoy many years of cycling pleasure. By taking care of your battery, you can continue to enjoy your (long) bike rides.

  1. Store your battery at room temperature

One of the most important tips that influence the life of your battery is the temperature at which you store it. It’s best to keep your battery at room temperature, ideally between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius. Avoid extremely high temperatures (above 25 degrees) and extremely low temperatures (below -10 degrees), as these can damage the battery and shorten its life.

2. Use thermal covers in cold weather

If you regularly cycle in cold weather, using thermal covers for your battery is a good investment. These covers protect the battery from the cold and ensure better performance at low temperatures. So you can keep riding carefree even on cold winter days.

3. Do not store an empty battery in a cold place

If you do not plan to use your bike for a long time and the battery is empty or almost empty, it is essential not to store it in a cold environment. This can lead to deep discharge, rendering the battery unusable. So be sure to store it in a place where the temperature is above the freezing point. In other words: unplug it and take it inside.

4. Insert your battery just before departure

If you plan to cycle in winter, it is advisable to install the battery on your e-bike only at the last moment before departure. This prevents the battery from being exposed to the cold for too long and allows it to better conserve its energy. In summer, however, avoid leaving your e-bike in direct sunlight to prevent the battery from overheating.

5. Charge the battery at room temperature

When you want to charge the battery, it is important to do so at room temperature. Avoid charging the battery when the temperature is below freezing point, as this can damage the battery cells. Also be careful not to leave the battery on the charger for too long once it is fully charged, as this may shorten its lifespan. It is therefore better to charge it during the day when you are awake rather than at night.
