Among women between the ages of 20 and 40, the increase has been even more dramatic. In the group, the number of people on sick leave for stress-related mental illness has increased by 141.8 percent since 2020.
Women also make up 83.3 percent of everyone in the age range in Norrbotten who was sickened with exhaustion syndrome in 2023.
“Still we who take responsibility”
Women are to be found in the majority across the country among those who are on sick leave with exhaustion syndrome. SVT spoke to several women on the streets of Luleå and they were not particularly surprised by the statistics:
– It is still probably the case that we take more responsibility around the children and everything that has to do with them. All sorts of small things like that which still take some time overall, says Eva Forsberg.
“Bad work environment”
Even in the workplace, however, there can be stress factors, and not least in female-dominated professions.
– Perhaps there are many women who work in healthcare and it is unfortunately a very bad working environment, says Petra Mallfors.
