After the big Daniel Craig finale James Bond 007 – No Time to Die, the future of 007 is not yet certain. What is certain, however, is that next Bond again an actor around 30 shall be. In a recent interview, the longtime 007 casting director spoke about the past process and the difficulties in finding the right secret agent. Young contenders have not fared well so far.
Young stars haven’t had what it takes to be James Bond
Speaking to the Radio Times, casting director Debbie McWilliams revealed that the search for a significantly younger Bond before Daniel Craig was frustrating:
We looked at a lot of younger actors. And I just don’t think they had the Gravitas, they didn’t have the experience, they didn’t have the mental strength to take it on because it’s not just the role they’re taking on, it’s a tremendous responsibility. So we kind of scrapped that idea and went back to the drawing board and started over.
After Pierce Brosnan, the choice of the new Bond star finally fell on Daniel Craig. In the Radio Times interview, McWilliams also recalled that the Casino Royale star wasn’t a big star to begin with, underscoring the pattern for choosing new 007 stars:
Some audiences had heard of Daniel Craig, but many more independent film audiences. He hadn’t made a big commercial film at all, really – Layer Cake [Film von 2004] was probably the most popular, shall we say, of the things he did before Bond, but he wasn’t well known as an actor.
There is no information yet on the new James Bond after Craig. What is pretty certain, however, is that well-known stars should be excluded from the cast.
