Drinking large amounts of alcohol and partying does not interest young people anymore.

Uppsalaborna Karin, 23, Astrid, 19, Sonja, 25, and Jens, 24, are all sober.

– I can do away anyway. I don’t need alcohol for it, says Sonja Wengström.

“Ingestion of intoxication in this room is prohibited”.

So it stands on a sign in the hall to one of the apartments sobriety friends’ student homes in Uppsala. It’s half jokingly, half seriously.

None of the four people who settle down on the couch drink alcohol.

Instead of being reviewed a beer, the gang meets at dinners, coffee, board game evenings or watching movies or comics together.

– But it doesn’t have to be more advanced than coming here and drinking tea, says Sonja Wengström, 25, who works as a nurse in Uppsala.

“Just haven’t started”

The fact that party is still on decline for young people, according to the youth barometer’s new survey.

– I think that instead of going out spontaneously, you plan a little better or that you choose your occasions because you may realize that it is difficult the day after. Or that it takes a lot of energy and that you want to be able to do something else with your time, says Jens Mårtensson, 24, who plugs into agricultural economist.

He also believes that the pandemic, where the interest in outdoor activities shot up, has left their mark.

– Just because you were not allowed to party or you have seen that there are other things to do, says Jens Mårtensson.

They are sober for various reasons. Some were raised in homes where alcohol was not drank while others found it through the sobriety movement’s scout ban.

Several of them say they “just never started”.

Gets tabascohots instead of snaps

They can go out on nations in Uppsala or nightclubs – without a per thousand in the body.

On student sessions they receive blueberry juice, cranberry juice or must for the food and sometimes they also get non -alcoholic snaps containing tabasco, cinnamon and oil.

– It’s so damn disgusting. Although sometimes it is delicious, but it depends well on who does it, says Sonja Wengström.

But some things are hard to tell you not to drink.

Many people take for granted that they will drive people home after a night out and sometimes they risk becoming “mother” during one evening.

– You get the card on ‘You are a soberist, now I feel bad, you can take care of me?’ You just no, I’m here because it’s fun, I’m not here to take care of you, says Astrid Miller, 19, who plugs into a civil engineer.

However, they agree that they are usually met by curious rather than prejudiced issues.

But one question that teacher student Karin Johansson, 23, is tired of answering from full people is if she thinks they are hard.

– I like to talk to people about why I’m a sober. But as long as they do not ask in such a sensation method as “wow, it’s like seeing an animal at a zoo,” she says.

“Not najs with Ölanda costume”

In addition to the fact that partying is not as much interest, young people today do not want to date people who party hard, IQ’s latest survey shows. Seven out of ten find it not attractive to date a party prize but prefer someone who has a sober lifestyle.

Jens Mårtensson feels that the hard thing is when full people’s behavior changes.

– These are times you know “huh?” It is not so naughty to get an Öland costume and to take care of them when they are full, he says.

One of Sonja Wengström’s friends told her he drank to pick up.

– I think that is a very sad reason to start drinking, she says.

She feels that she can release and take courage – without alcohol.

– You get a little so if you hang out too. When everyone else is full and happy, it becomes clear that you become so yourself. I can do away anyway. I don’t need alcohol to do it, says Sonja Wengström.
