May work three hours a day on the promise • “good when they look for a job later”
This week it is sports holiday in many parts of Sweden. And in the municipality of Åstorp, they have started to offer children and young people to work on the promise, to give them some work experience and an opportunity to strengthen their resume.
“Not everyone has parents who can fix jobs on the law to them,” says Michael Hegera, field secretary in the mobile team in Åstorp municipality.
Three hours a day and five days a week, some teenagers return to the Hyllingeskolan. Then they can, among other things, repaint in the corridors and clean the home knowledge room.
– It’s fun to paint, especially now that it’s sports holiday. So instead of taking it easy at home, I can be to paint and hang out with friends, says Jaime Kvist Kron.
The municipality goes one step further
It is the municipality of Åstorp that is behind it. Although many municipalities are already offering holiday jobs in the summers, you go here a small step further. The idea is that it should be a helping hand to the young people once they will apply for their first summer job.
– Not everyone has parents who can fix jobs on the law to them. Then we think this will be a good condition when they are looking for a job later. Then they can showcase a resume that shows that they have worked on the law, that they have suited times and that they have listened to leaders. It is simply for their sake, says Michael Hegera, field secretary in the mobile team in Åstorp municipality.
Receives gift cards in salary
He has already been a reference to young people who have worked in the initiative. For their effort and time you get SEK 600 in gift cards at a nearby shopping center.
– I will be looking for a summer job now and think this can help me now as a plus in my resume, says Heba Al Khl
