In the Kanal 5 program “Gränsbevakarna Sverige”, customs at Arlanda stop two 18-year-old girls who have just landed at home in Sweden. This then the customs inspector Thomas makes the assessment that people at a young age, who have probably been out on a party trip, often bring alcohol with them.

And sure enough, a bottle appears on the screen when one of the bags goes through the X-ray. That’s when customs inspector Tomas gives one of the girls a lecture.
When the girl is questioned by Tomas, it turns out that she is aware that there is a 20-year age limit for buying alcohol in Sweden, but still brought a bottle of alcohol in her bag.
– This is still quite serious. This is smuggling and it’s because you’re not 20. That means you’ll be fined for this, and you’ll also get a dot on your record. This means that you get a dot in the register for five years, which means that you cannot apply for certain courses. Think about it, says Tomas.

Tomas perceives the girl as scared and hurt, but he judges that she understands the consequences and the seriousness. Thus, the assessment is made that she escapes with only one warning.
– Today you will not receive a fine. You will get a warning from me. You’re 18, I’m not here to ruin your life. But you also have to think about the consequences when you have alcohol with you. It is very serious. What have you learned today?, asks Tomas.
– Absolutely not to bring alcohol with me, that it counts as smuggling and that there are consequences, the girl replies.

The young woman tells us that she wants to become a lawyer in the future. Tomas explains that the task of the customs office is not to destroy someone’s future dreams, but that at the same time they have to do their job.
“Gränsbevakarna Sverige” is broadcast on discovery+ and Kanal 5.
