As on almost every Thursday evening, Bungie reveals news regarding the development of Destiny 2 in its latest TWiD (formerly TWaB). This time the developers have taken the time to introduce the new exotic class items and explain which perks you can expect.
What are exotic class items? In Destiny 2, Guardians have the opportunity to equip exotic weapons and armor to benefit from powerful perks that are unique to each other. These can change entire playstyles and give you a variety of builds.
Destiny 1 also introduced exotic class items, but they were tied to political factions and were largely cosmetic in nature. With “The Final Shape” the exotic class items should finally return to Destiny 2. This time these are not just cosmetic in nature, but also offer various exotic perks from exo-armor that Guardians should know about.
You can find out what perks these are and why Bungie still has to weaken the items here.
You should become powerful, but not too powerful
How is the system supposed to work? In contrast to their older versions from Destiny 1, the exotic class items also equip you with two exotic perks from well-known exo-armor. The perks appear randomly, so you can’t choose them and have to trust your RNG luck.
In addition, the respective class items will be farmable in a special activity once the new World First of “The Final Shape” raid has been completed. Bungie doesn’t say what kind of activity this is, but they do assure you that every time you complete the activity you’ll get an exotic class item – guaranteed.
So it’s like you’re wearing two Exos with the class item and if you put on another Exo armor, that’s three Exos.
Which perks are available? Anyone who initially thought that Bungie would allow you complete perk freedom will now be disappointed. In total, you have the chance to get one of eight selected perks for each perk point in your equipment. There are 16 exotic perks in total. The following Exos made it as perks:
Perks for the hunter
Perks for the Titan
Perks for the Warlock
We have put the names of the Exos in the tables as a guide so that you know what functions the perks have. Bungie will be adjusting some of these effects when The Final Shape is released to ensure that some combinations are not too powerful.
Is there a catch? Yes, because although the equipment is powerful, you can only use the items if you use the new sub-class “Prismatic”. The Light and Dark classes do not benefit from the exotic class items and cannot be equipped if you have them active.
