You think someone should have wondered
Norrköping residents about Lars Carlborg’s fate

The story of the man who lay dead in his home for almost four years touches the people in his hometown of Norrköping.

Olliver Larsson, 23, postman:

– I now understand that I have distributed mail to him even though he no longer lived. It’s tragic and very strange. In houses where you have mailboxes in the gate, we see if someone gets overcrowded, but in these houses the mail falls on the doormat. And we can not look into people’s apartments.

-I have heard about this and thought it was a year he had been lying. But almost four years … it’s insane. Of course you have to respect if someone wants to be alone, but we can not have a society where you can lie dead for four years, it is not sustainable.

Kinga Obrebska, 42, works with elderly care:

– It is very sad to hear. There are many old people who are alone, and maybe it got even worse because of the corona.

– I come from Poland and there is a different culture. There we knock and talk to the neighbor. There you can go to the neighbor and borrow sugar, you do not do in Sweden. Here you often do not even say hello to your neighbor. This can happen in Poland as well, but I do not think it is as common.

Nicklas Trygg, 55, construction project manager:

– It is sad when such things happen, when someone does not have loved ones and is not missed. I have worked in the real estate industry and have personally been involved in finding people who have stayed in their homes for a long time, but then it has been a couple of months at most. Four years sounds very strange.

– It is tragic that society has become like this. I think it depends in part on digitization. In the past, the elderly went to the post office and paid their bills, now they never have to meet anyone.

Liselotte Jansson, 50, customer service representative:

– It’s very tragic, but I’m not surprised. It should not happen, but a lot that should not happen is happening nowadays. It’s all the shootings and the “little heart”, the little girl who passed away in such a tragic way. So I’m not surprised. But you think that someone should have wondered when four years passed.

Viggo Andersson, 19, student:

– It feels very sad. Many older people are lonely, especially those who have no family. It’s heartbreaking. There should be some protection in society so that no one has to be left alone.
