American Gigolo now streaming: A series remake with a new twist

American Gigolo is the serial reboot of Paul Schrader’s 80’s thriller A man for a few hours by David Hollander (Ray Donovan). Convicted of murder, sex worker Julian Kaye (Jon Bernthal) is released from prison after 15 years. The world and that escort business has now changed. While the ex-callboy is trying to start over, he is also looking for clues about what really happened when he woke up next to a dead customer.

Out of necessity leads his search for clues the former American gigolo to old acquaintances: Can Julian’s now married great love Michelle (Gretchen Mol) have something to do with the fact that he was framed for the murder? How do his old pimp Olga (Sandrine Holt) and her now grown daughter Isabelle (Lizzie Brocheré) fit into the picture? Was Julien ultimately responsible for the horrible act of violence and just can’t remember?

After The Walking Dead and Marvel’s Punisher, Jon Bernthal becomes a convincing American gigolo

In the original film 42 years ago, Richard Gere played the American gigolo, who became known for his womanizer roles. The fact that the new edition of the series goes its own way, especially in terms of cast, benefits the remake: Because theirs The retelling draws its greatest attraction from its exciting cross-casting of Jon Bernthal.

The actor mostly played tough guys in his most famous roles, be it as a Daredevil antagonist with his own series (Marvel’s The Punisher), as ex-cop Shane in the first seasons of The Walking Dead or in action roles like those of Baby Driver, The Accountant and Wind River. American Gigolo will start with 2 of the 8 episodes on December 28, 2022 on Paramount+ (also viewable with a Sky Q subscription) and will then be shown with double episodes every Wednesday.
