You only get one of the best companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you are really bad

Minthara is a must-unlock companion in Baldur’s Gate 3 that most of you are sure to miss. Because to recruit them, you must slaughter innocents. If that’s not too brutal for you, Minthara is very worthwhile.

Who is Minthara?

This is why Minthara is so strong: Minthara is a paladin by default, making it one of the strongest classes in the game. Paladins are not only extremely robust, but also deal a lot of damage. They can use magic to do this. They are the ideal tanks and front line fighters.

Unless you’re playing a paladin yourself, or want to respec one of the other pets, Minthara is the only option here. In a group, she can easily replace Lae’zel, Karlach, or even Shadowheart.

As a drow, Minthara also has some other spells like darkness, but has enhanced darkvision himself, which can be useful in many situations. She can help you with this later in the game by making a dangerous area easier. For spoiler reasons, we won’t reveal which one it is.

The following guide contains story spoilers!

You can even romance Minthara quite early in the game. If you’re a druid yourself, this can get pretty wild though:

Recruit Minthara – Here’s how

In order to recruit Minthara, you must fight on the side of the goblins in the goblin questline centered around the Emerald Grove. Once you get to the Ruined Village, convince the goblins there that you’re a friend – same on the way to the Ruined Sanctuary.

Wonder your way through the goblins until one of them sends you to Minthara. As a drow, you have more conversational options. It is important that they are friendly to you and do not attack immediately.

Minthara stands in the upper right room of the temple. Talk to her and tell her where the Druid Grove is. She then starts the quest “Loot the Emerald Grove.”

Dror Ragzlin has to live all the way to the quest otherwise the goblins will attack you. That also means you can’t save either Halsin or the Tieflings in the Emerald Grove. At least we haven’t found a way yet.

Earn the trust of the druids and wait until the next morning. Minthara then explains the plan to you. Follow the plan and kill everyone in the grove. You can then add Minthara to the group if you have enough confidence. If you want to have a relationship with her, don’t look for her fears when you’re on her mind!

Danger! Following Minthara’s plan is a thoroughly evil act that some of your companions do not approve of. You may lose some friends and in any case the option to recruit Halsin. You must choose between Minthara and Halsin. You can read more about this in our guide:
