You no longer want to be identified on an Instagram photo? You just have to ask ! The social network allows you to hide the photos where you are tagged and even to permanently delete an identification.
Instagram allows its members to “tag” – ie identify – other users on a photo. A practical and nice function for mentioning friends, but which can also be intrusive. Even downright unpleasant, when old photos bring back bad memories …
Fortunately, if you are tagged in a photo of your ex or in a snapshot that you don’t like, you can “untag” yourself without asking permission from the person posting it. The process is very simple with the Instagram mobile application, this function not being accessible with the Web version, for computers.
Here is how to hide a photo where you are tagged or permanently detagged:
- Open the Instagram application on your mobile or tablet and log in with your usual credentials if you do not automatically access your account.
- Press on your profile picture at the bottom right of the screen to access your profile page.
- Above your photo gallery, tap square icon located on the right.
- All the photos you are tagged with are displayed.
- Press on the photo you want to detach yourself from.
- Press on the three points at the top right of the photo.
- Tap the label Identification options.
- A dialog box Identification options is displayed.
- Several choices are available to you. Press on Hide on my profile so that the photo is no longer displayed on your profile. This operation is reversible: simply return to the original publication to view it again.
- If you want to stand out from the photo permanently, choose the option Remove me from the post. This operation is irreversible.
