Declaration 2024: How to prepare

In an interview with News24 tells Frida Brattsavings economist at Nordnet Bank, about what you can do – already now – to make the declaration a little smoother when the time comes.

– If you know that you have the opportunity to make deductions, for example if you sold a home or traveled a lot in the job, then it can be good to collect and get a handle on the documents you need. If you have sold a home, you can, for example, deduct for repairs made in the last five years and improvement expenses you had, so make sure you have receipts and invoices ready.

It may also be a good idea to read up on what is required to actually receive a deduction.

– The rules can be strict in many cases, and if you have a little knowledge beforehand, you will avoid spending unnecessary time on a deduction you do not get approved. I would say it is wise to focus on the big areas; deductions for travel, deductions in connection with housing sales and set-off if you sold securities within a share and fund account, says Frida Bratt and continues:

– If you have sold shares from a share or fund account, this may also require some work, as you may have to calculate the so-called cost amount. You may also need to read up on company events in certain shares to know how they should be declared, and that information is collected on the Tax Agency’s website. Overall, the Swedish Tax Agency has good services that can be of great help – use them!
