You may not know this, but WhatsApp offers text formatting options. Little-known functions that allow you to give style to your messages to stand out or have fun in your discussions.

Like everyone else, you write your messages in WhatsApp without worrying about formatting the text. And that’s completely normal! This is a messaging application and not a real word processing tool like Word, Google Docs or Pages. However, Meta has integrated a few functions that allow you to use bold or italics in your messages. Functions that have existed for several years already, and which will soon be enriched with new options for making bulleted lists, for example. So many tools

All these formatting functions allow you to give style to your messages, whether to stand out in a group discussion, to bring a touch of fantasy to a conversation with a friend or to emphasize elements in the frame. of a professional exchange.

You still need to know how to use them! Because if these options remain unknown, it is because they are not visible. Unlike other functions, there is no button. To use them, you must place tags around the text to be formatted. These are special characters, which are placed before and after the text without spaces. The text is then automatically formatted and the tags automatically disappear when sent.

Thus, to put italics in your message, simply insert an underscore (also called underscore) on each side of the text to transform (_text_). To put the text in fat, you simply have to put an asterisk on each side of the text (*text*). For bar the text, you must insert a tilde on each side of the passage concerned (~text~). Finally, you can also use a monospace type font where all the characters are spaced the same way, like on the typewriters of yesteryear. You must then place six inverted apostrophes (also called backticks), three before and three after the text: “text“`. Be careful, it is important not to confuse the inverted apostrophe with another symbol such as the grave accent.

Even though these functions are not used often, Meta will add three new ones in an upcoming one. The first is designed to make lines of computer code easier to read, but it can be used for other purposes because it places text very readably in a different colored block. To benefit from this, you must place a grave accent at the beginning and end of the passage in question (`text`).

If you want to quote only part of a message and not its entirety, it is now possible. Meta has in fact worked on the integration of the Quote function which allows you to use a part, or even a specific sentence, of a text. A practical function that you can use by integrating the “>” character before the passage to be repeated (>text).

Third new function: bulleted and numbered lists. It’s ideal for making your shopping list, a to-do list or simply for listing arguments or ideas. To organize your messages like this, you must start the text with an asterisk, a hyphen or a number to create a list with the form you want (*text, – text or 1. text). The following elements will take exactly the same shape.

That’s it, all you have to do is test and memorize these functions to impress your loved ones and even your colleagues!
