In recent years, high electricity prices, expensive food and skyrocketing mortgage interest rates have hit Swedish households hard, as they struggled to make ends meet.
Most people therefore want to hold tight to their pennies and do their best not to waste them. But now it turns out, in a new study carried out by the Swedish Consumer Agency, that the average Swede loses a lot of money every year, on an expensive habit.

SEK 6,500 goes to incorrect purchases
More specifically, it concerns purchases that do not end well, i.e. goods that may not work or services that are not carried out as they should.
Such purchases cost the average Swede SEK 6,500 – a year. But what types of purchases cost?
“Craftsman services and house building are the biggest culprits – here the most money is lost, followed by the car trade and telecom services. If you look at purchases where mistakes happen more often, but for smaller sums, we find food, clothes, restaurant visits, home electronics and train journeys,” writes the Consumer Agency in a press release.

The authority believes that even if the companies must deliver well-functioning services and products, you as a consumer can gain a lot by reading up and holding those responsible to account.
“For example, it is important to remember that in the vast majority of cases you have a three-year right to complain about goods and services that you buy. If something goes wrong or works poorly, you therefore have the right to demand compensation,” writes The Swedish Consumer Agency.
