Path of Exile 2 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor and stands out as a complex game for gamers with a penchant for deep mechanics. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus spoke to Diablo expert Rob about the game.
Who is the expert?
This is what Rob says about Path of Exile 2: I spoke with Rob about various topics related to Path of Exile and Diablo 4 – including getting started with the new ARPG. Many players and experts agree: the complexity of PoE 2 scares off many newcomers.
While Rob agrees, he also really likes the way Path of Exile 2 handles the introduction to these complicated systems:
You notice straight away: This is a hard game. I personally think that’s really good. Many people may not think that’s a good thing, but you know straight away what you’re getting yourself into. It’s a game that’s significantly more difficult than Diablo right from the start.
The further you get in the game, the easier it becomes, explains the expert. He himself started a new character, a Monk, after his Warrior was too slow for him after a few hours of play.
Diablo is taking a completely different approach here with different levels of difficulty, which is especially better for newbies and casual players. But he still doesn’t want to compare the games directly.
“There is a very clear separation”
Rob explains that Path of Exile and Diablo have a lot of overlap in terms of player base. But there is also a very clear separation of players who are addressed by the respective games.
Path of Exile is good for “those who want to invest more time” and people like him who like complex mechanics. Diablo, on the other hand, is more suitable if you don’t have that much time.
The constant arguments between the communities also annoy him: “You can also play two games.” You don’t have to constantly compare and badmouth the other game. However, both communities would give each other nothing when it comes to behavior.
You can find the full interview here on MeinMMO this weekend. Among other things, it talks about Season 7 of Diablo 4, the future of Path of Exile 2 and there is a short review of the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
Rob’s opinion that Diablo appeals primarily to players with little time and those who don’t need overly complex mechanics in their game is consistent with the voices from the community: “I don’t want it to challenge me” – players debate whether Diablo 4 is too simple, praise it for the casual-friendliness
