“You don’t have to babysit to each other”

In Elden Ring: Night -Treign you fight your side with friends against your opponents. If you prefer to go solo, you can do that according to a developer – but it won’t be easy.

The standalone title, which will be released in May 2025, is neither a DLC nor a direct sequel. You explore the world in a dynamic day-night cycle, looted valuable loot and face powerful enemies-either in the three-way co-op or with two AI allies on your side. Although the game is designed for Koop, you can also face the challenges alone.

What is the game? In an interview with Gamespot, the game director Junya Ishizaki explains that Nightreign is intended as a multiplayer experience, but can also be played for loners. The co-op approach is primarily intended to address players who feel overwhelmed by the structure of Elden Ring.

Nevertheless, the developers wanted to keep the feeling that they set off alone into the stranger. Even if you are on the go in the team, you can move freely over the card. You don’t have to “babysite” each other-but at least it boils down to common boss fights. Ishizaki emphasizes that players have to adapt in real time – be it due to quick tactical decisions, changing equipment or even a spontaneous change of playing style.

Whoever dies loses valuable levels

According to Game Director Junya Ishizaki, Nightreign feels much more spontaneous, relaxed and improvised compared to Elden Ring. While Elden Ring sends you on a long journey that ends in epic boss fights, Nightreign relies on quick decisions and flexible adjustments. The boss fights remain a central element-and if you play alone, they could cost you a lot of nerves.

Why will loners suffer? It is not unusual that the player characters often bless the time in a title like Elden Ring. However, if you want to tackle the fights in Elden Ring: Nightreign alone, for example because you are looking for the challenge, there is something you should consider: you finally die before you are revived by a team whole level. Since there are fewer levels overall, it can hurt quite a bit.

In short: if you face the challenge alone, you have to count on setbacks. If you bless the time too often, it can quickly become frustrating because you lose more valuable levels than wins.
