You do not want to be solicited by calls or notifications on your smartphone in the evening or during a meeting? Activate do not disturb mode to find a little serenity or concentration without cutting you off from the world.
Are you a slave to your smartphone and can’t help but glance at its screen as soon as a notification sounds? Appeared several years ago on smartphones and then on computers, the “Do not disturb” mode allows you to take a break. By activating it on your mobile, you put an end to the thousand and one requests that prevent you from staying focused on a given period or sleeping soundly. This mode cuts off all notifications, sound and/or visual that may occur on the smartphone. All or almost. Indeed, you can also decide that calls or texts from certain contacts can cross the barrier of peace of mind or even notifications from the applications of your choice. Do not disturb mode is thus very effective when you have to give your full attention to a particular task so as not to be tempted to pick up your smartphone or when it’s time to sleep so as not to be suddenly awakened by a nocturnal notification and without much interest. Here’s how to enable it on Android.
Do not disturb mode is a feature of Android. As a result, it looks more or less the same on all devices. Depending on the manufacturers’ software overlays, some menu names may however vary. For the example, we’ll be using a Pixel 6 Pro powered by Android 13.
► Access the shortcuts pane by swiping two fingers from the top to the bottom of the screen. Look for the shortcut Do not disturb and long press it to access mode settings.
► Before pressing the button Activate now, you can make some adjustments. So press the option People.
► Tap the option Posts.
► Here you can choose the names of the contacts appearing in your address book which will not be filtered by the mode Do not disturb. This will allow you to continue to receive text messages from them. By default, your contacts placed in favorites are privileged.
► You can also choose the contacts yourself. To do this, press the toothed wheel of the option contacts then select the people who will not be affected by the temporary blocking.
► When the correspondents who can continue to contact you by SMS have been selected, press the arrow at the top left of the screen to return to the previous page. Proceed in the same way to define the contacts who can continue to call you while the mode is activated. Do not disturb.
► Note the presence of a well-seen option: Allow repeat calls. By activating it, you can authorize a correspondent who is not on your white list to join you if he tries to call you twice in less than 15 minutes. This could be an important call that would be best answered. When your choices are made, return to the main mode settings page Do not disturb.
► If you want to allow certain apps to keep sending you notifications like WhatsApp or Messenger for example, tap on the option Apps Then + Add apps.
► Choose an app from the list. You can then define what type of notifications to receive. For example, for Messenger, tap Discussions.
► Here you can choose the notification mode (display on screen, sound, vibrate, etc.) to keep.
► When your settings are ready, press the button Activate now to start the mode Do not disturb. All you have to do is deactivate it from the Android shortcuts drawer when you want to return to normal use of your smartphone. Notifications received during this quiet period will then be displayed on the screen.
