League of Legends is generally considered a toxic game. Nevertheless, there are some “good guys”, especially among the professionals. But one of them used to be someone that hardly anyone would have liked. His fame obviously got to his head, but he worked on himself.
Who is the player?
This is how Caps behaved back then: The Spanish colleagues at 3Djuegos dug up some of Caps’ early chat histories and took a closer look at the professional’s career. The mid laner doesn’t do particularly well there.
He then became really unfriendly in conversations with other players. During a game, sentences like: “You’ll never get anywhere in League, I’ll make sure of that, I’ll destroy your team.” […] You have no idea how much influence I have on the roster.” (via X)
The professional is also said to have not shown insight for a long time. As another teammate shows in one episode, Caps once said: “Visit me in Germany next year. I don’t have to behave […] I’ve already been selected.” (via X)
Since he was signed by his first professional team, he was said to have behaved horribly. Teammates said, for example, that he hardly concentrated on ranked games anymore and almost only trolled, sabotaged or experimented there.
The legendary faker is probably much less controversial:
Toxic professional works on himself: “I am now a role model”
Shortly after joining Team Fnatic, Caps posted an official apology along with his team (via TwitLonger). There it says:
I would like to apologize for my recent behavior in Solo Queue, both to the community and to the people I flamed. […] What I didn’t know before joining Fnatic is that there’s more to being a pro than just being good at the game. I also have to be a good person and a role model for others.
Caps vowed to improve and wanted to work on his behavior with his team. That seems to have worked.
Since that time, there have been no significant incidents in which Caps has attracted negative attention. Even the world-famous Faker recently trained with him. Caps’ biggest problem was probably that he became too successful too quickly, as 3Djuegos writes.
Anyone who enters professional sport at the age of 17, receives an enormous salary and moves to Germany without being prepared for it must first come to terms with it. There is no such thing in traditional sport. In addition, League of Legends generally has a reputation for not having the nicest community:
I played LoL for the first time – they really are as mean as everyone says
