Award-winning nurse Hanna Jokinen was excited to meet Queen Silvia of Sweden. took the same taxi to the castle to watch the event.
STOCKHOLM When Hanna Jokinen got an invitation from the Queen of Sweden to the castle, she had to google what business dress code means.
In Jokinen’s work as a nurse, there is no need for strict dress codes or neatly ironed shirts. Jokinen, who lives in Hattula, has worked with people with dementia for a long time.
Now Jokinen is ironing her party clothes in the hallway of a Stockholm hotel. She thinks that ironing would be suitable for the workplace, if only there were time.
– You should be able to do things like this with clients in everyday nursing work. They would still be able to remember how to use that iron.
Jokinen is in Stockholm because at the end of last year, he was awarded with the care industry award given by Queen Silvia.
On Thursday, there was a celebration in the royal palace.
“I cried when the queen spoke so beautifully”
Queen Silvia gives out the recognition award that bears her name every year. Several Finnish nurses have received it over the years. This year, there were two awardees, one from Oulu in addition to Jokinen Floro Cubelo.
Jokinen received the queen’s recognition for his idea, which would give nurses more power in shift planning. Her current tasks include organizing home care shifts.
The occasion and the strict etiquette were stressful, but everything went smoothly, Jokinen summed up after receiving the award.
– Started crying during the queen’s speech, when she spoke so beautifully about nurses and the value and need of nurses.
And how did it feel that the recognition came in Sweden and not at home in Finland?
– In Finland, everyone says that they value nursing work. But sometimes I feel that it remains at the level of saying. You don’t really understand what the work is like in the field.
According to Jokis, good treatment of memory sufferers does not require tricks, but above all, presence.
– As a person, meeting people and a lot of humor. Lots of presence and calmness.
Jokinen is also active in the politics of the Kanta-Häme welfare region. He sits in the regional council as a representative of the Left Alliance. His message to Finnish decision-makers is direct:
– I would like to see the nurses’ message that the working conditions must be fixed, taken seriously.
