A real bank note will go on sale in February in 3,000 copies. Although it is an official note created by France, it has no monetary value. So what can it be used for?
A bank note worth zero euros! This is intriguing, especially since this note includes all the security systems of the European Central Bank such as watermarks, inks, holograms as well as serial numbers. It is the company Oberthur Fiduciaire, founded in 1842 and specialized in the printing of banknotes, which is responsible for this rather special production. In total, 3,000 copies will be issued next July, but they will be sold at the price of two euros, by Euro Banknote Memory, from February 11, 2024. So, what purpose can this 0 euro bank note be used for, which does not therefore has no monetary value?
Like many “souvenir medal” coins, a concept created by Richard Faille in 1996 with the Paris Mint, this new “Euro souvenir” note celebrates a historic moment: the 80th anniversary of the liberation of France, by paying tribute to the Normandy landings, which took place on June 6, 1944. Indeed, several symbols appear on this purple note, referring to the Second World War. Here, for example, we see a train at Buisson station and the phrase “it was the train of our countryside”. Other models mention “To all the French” or refer to the Westland Lysander plane of the Royal Air Force, the Landings or the parade on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées during the Liberation.
According to the Euro Souvenir collective, the pre-sales have already been very successful. If you are interested in these tickets which pay homage to history, a sale is organized on February 11 in Isle, near Limoges, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. But first come should be first served. Many events and ceremonies are also planned in Normandy.
Remember that many souvenir tickets at 0 euros are on sale on different themes, notably the monuments of the capital or even some museums, such as the Montparnasse Tower, the Eiffel Tower, the Mucem of Fort Saint-Jean, the national museum of Marine, or the Chauvet cave in Ardèche…
