On Amazon Prime Video: Quentin Tarantino finds monster horror “absolutely wonderful”

In The Host a giant creature terrorizes the South Korean capital without warning Seoul and even abducts people. This includes Gang-Doo’s (Kang-ho Song) young daughter Hyun-Seo (Ah-sung Ko). While the government declares a state of emergency, the family man tries to find his child with the help of his alcoholic brother Nam-il (Hae-il Park) and his sister Nam-Joo (Doona Bae), an excellent archer.

The result is a terrific cocktail of layered humor, parody and a horror grounded more in interpersonal fears than in a terrifying CGI monster. Many critics were rightly enthusiastic about the film (via Metacritic).
