The sci-fi world of Code 8 began back in 2016. A 10-minute project caused a stir on YouTube, drawing an exciting vision of the future with convincing effects: The Short film Code 8 threw us into the fictional city of Lincoln City and a world where four percent of all people have superpowers. However, this does not make them heroes, but rather marginalized people who live at the lower poverty line. Electrician Connor Reed (Robbie Amell) has a run-in with the law in the form of police robots.

The success of the short film was partially followed in 2019 Crowdfunded feature-length film version of the scenario. Robbie Amell returned in Code 8 back in the main role and the stars Sung Kang (again as a police officer), Aaron Abrams (as a detective instead of his best friend) and Stephen Amell (no longer as a drone pilot, but as a gifted criminal) were also back. In the 98-minute sci-fi film, Connor, a handyman with his electrical powers, slipped into lucrative crime to help his mother. Which explains why he’s released from prison at the beginning of Part 2 on Netflix.
