When it becomes winter road conditions, it is no longer sufficient to drive on summer tires, and from December 1 the car must roll on winter tires.
Many cars in Sweden still roll on studded tires in the winter, rather than the more modern friction tires. If you drive on studded tires in winter, there are a number of rules to adhere to.
You can do that from October
Studded tires provide the best grip on winter road conditions, but wear in return on the road surface, and in some of the larger cities in Sweden there are therefore streets where you are not allowed to drive with them.
For the same reason, it is also not permitted to drive on studded tires all year round.
But since October 1, 2024, it is permitted to mount studded tires on the car. This spring, you must have changed to tires without studs on the car by April 15 at the latest.
During the summer months, outside the dates above, it is only permitted to drive on studded tires if there are or are expected to be winter road conditions.

In addition to the dates for when you can drive on studded tires, it is also important to keep track of the dates between which you must have winter tires on the car.
The Christian date for when the car must be shod with winter tires is December 1. After March 31, the car no longer needs to have winter tires.
Between these dates, however, it is permitted to drive on summer tires if there are no winter road conditions.
