Attention fans of Nordic action thrillers: There is currently a particularly darkly humorous representative of the genre available to watch completely free of charge in the ZDF media library. Starring: Stellan Skarsgard. If you don’t want to miss the bloody spectacle, you have to hurry. The film is only freely available in the media library until December 17th.
What film is it about? One after the other by the Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland comes from 2014. The film celebrated its premiere in competition at the Berlinale, after all the third largest film festival in the world.
The story tells of Nils Dickmann, a Swede who lives in Norway and works as a snow plow driver there. When his son Ingvar is found dead, the police assume it was a self-inflicted drug overdose. Nils doesn’t want to believe that his son was a junkie and soon falls into a deep depression. Only when a friend of his son visits him and tells him that Invgar was the victim of the local drug mafia does Nils find new strength. He wants to take revenge on his son’s murderers. What follows is a bloody foray through the snowy Norwegian landscape.

If you want to see the thriller, you have to be quick
How can you watch the film? You can’t watch one after the other on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+. Instead, you should take a trip to the ZDF media library. The film will be available there until December 17, 2023, but only between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The reason for the restriction is the age limit from 16 years. Due to German youth protection laws, public television is not permitted to show the film at an earlier time of day. Exceptions apply to those who create an account.
Unlike established streaming services, you don’t need a subscription with the ZDF media library. You can stream the film, just like all other content, completely free of charge.
By the way, One by One was remade in 2019. This time with Liam Neeson in the lead role.

Who is the main character? Stellan Skarsgård, like his film character, is Swedish. Marvel fans know him as Professor Erik Selvig from the Avengers films. He starred as Baron Harkonnen in the remake of Dune. Musical fans will remember his appearance in the “Mamma Mia” films, and fans of hard fare will know the actor as a regular guest in Lars von Trier’s films.
Apart from his work, Stellan Skarsgård is also known for his family. His sons Alexander, Gustaf, Sam, Valter and Bill all work as actors. You probably know the latter as the horror clown Pennywise in the remake of Stephen King’s It.
