Summer temperatures continue to make itself felt throughout the country. The humid air that emerges when warm weather combines with rain can make it difficult to sleep at night. The most effective method against uncomfortable heat is air conditioner and fan. However, while air conditioners push the budgets, fans may not meet expectations.
CHEAP AND EFFECTIVE METHODS
Of course, although not as much as the air conditioner, you can keep your home a little bit cool with a few effective, simple and inexpensive methods. Keeping windows and doors open during the day is one of the easiest ways to lower the temperature inside. However, it is not always possible to leave doors and windows open while at work. So what can you do if you are faced with an unbearably hot room and there is no fan or air conditioning?
Try to activate the airflow in the house: Simply open windows on opposite sides of a room or house. But be careful, opening two windows on the same side of the house doesn’t create the same crossover breeze. For rooms with one window, keeping the door open allows for a cross breeze from elsewhere in the house.
Keep power tools to a minimum: Many electrical appliances such as televisions, coffee makers, kettles and chargers can generate a lot of wasted energy in the form of heat. To overcome this, turn off and unplug unnecessary devices when not in use. If possible, try not to use the overhead lamp in the evening.
Keep curtains and blinds closed: You should try to get in the habit of closing your curtains and blinds when the sun is at its peak to prevent sunlight from getting inside. Close your curtains and open the windows fully to let in the breeze. If windows in certain rooms receive a lot of direct sunlight, use dark or blackout curtains or blinds to prevent the rays from overheating your room.
Prepare a cold water spray: It is one of the fastest ways to cool any room and is incredibly easy to do. Just fill a spray bottle with water and let it sit in the freezer for 30 minutes. Spray the furniture liberally with chilled water for a quick cool down.
