Tom Selleck could soon actually be hunting criminals in New York, so much does he adore his role in the police series Blue Bloods – Crime Scene New York. The 80s cult series Magnum got a new edition in 2018. The producers would have liked to cast Selleck in this role. But the star turned down the offer. He told TV Insider:

They have asked me and I said no. I’m busy with Blue Bloods. […] I explained to them that I [auch] I will not make a cameo appearance that would make it clear to the audience that I agree with the reboot.

He feels obliged to his version, but wants to not stand in the way of the vision of the reboot, said Selleck. Magnum is considered one of the biggest cult series of the 80s and revolves around private detective Thomas Magnum, who solves criminal cases in Hawaii. Selleck played the iconic role for eight seasons until 1988. That alone earned him his place in TV history. But Blue Bloods is also very important to the star.

Tom Selleck loves Blue Bloods and fought like a lion against the cancellation of the series until the end. He hasn’t had any success with it so far. On the contrary: it is for the US broadcaster CBS End of the police saga apparently a done deal. Blue Bloods will end later this year. Selleck already has a plan for what will happen afterwards.
