“You are a real role model”

Anna Holmlund has had to fight her way back after the nasty accident.
Now she takes on the biggest challenge yet.
– I usually say; what’s the worst that can happen?, says Anna in a statement.

It has been just over six years since the horrific accident in Innichen, Italy on December 19, 2016. When Anna Holmlund was at the peak of his career as one of the world’s best ski crossers and the terrible thing happened in a training session.

Holmlund’s accident

The Swede crashed violently on the hill and sustained life-threatening head injuries. After being sedated, put into a coma and fighting for his life for five months, Holmlund came back to life and miraculously survived.

Since then, it has been a long and tough rehabilitation for Anna, who really had to fight every day to experience a normal life again. Over the years, she has inspired many Swedes with her incredible will and determination.

Anna’s challenge

Today, she can get around most of the time without a wheelchair and her ability to speak has improved significantly. The winner’s skull is still with her and now she will take on a very big challenge in the summer.

Anna Holmlund has registered for the tough race Vansbrosimmet, which is part of the Swedish classic.
– When I swim, I’m like one with the water, I’m the old Anna and the body works in a completely different way than on land, says the 35-year-old in a press release.
– I crawl with one arm and have gone from swimming in circles to now trying to do 100 turns a couple of times a week, it’s the best there is. I usually say; What’s the worst that could happen? That I’m cold? It passes and besides, I’m used to winter swimming.

“Real role model”

Together with her mother, Anna will swim Vansbro Tjejsim of 1 km on Friday and then tackle the Vansbro swimming of 3 km by herself on Saturday.
– It will be fun to swim and I will swim myself, of course I have to try. Because what’s the worst that can happen, that I break? It’s not the whole world either, says Anna with a big smile according to a press release from Vansbrosimningen.

On Facebook, there are many who wish Anna Holmlund the best of luck and support her all the way.
“Great Anna. Good luck. The Vansbro swimming was the turning point for me, after the Vansbro swimming everything became like a fairy tale,” writes the successful para athlete Anders Olsson in a comment.
“You are admirable, Anna! So many obstacles you have passed. Good luck with the swimming,” writes another.
“Hello Anna, good luck, you are a real fighter and role model,” writes a third.
