Yin family to cease operating Hoys restaurant in Simcoe

SIMCOE A member of the Yin family has announced they will cease operation of Hoy’s Chinese Cuisine in Simcoe in December.

“Hoy’s will be closing its doors for the last time (operating under the Yin family) Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022,” restaurant general manager Howie Yin said on his Facebook page on Thursday.

The Hoy’s property on Queensway East has been sold.

The business and property were owned by Yin’s father, Tony Yin, who opened Yin’s Restaurant on Main Street in Waterford in 1971.

Restaurants in Waterford and Port Dover still carry the Yin name but no family members are involved in their ownership or management, said Howie Yin.

“Our family has been in the Chinese food business since 1971 and it’s been an honor to be feeding you for the past 52 years. This is the end of the end … but maybe a start of a new beginning??” Yin posted.

In an interview, Yin said he is looking to open a new operation in Simcoe in the new year but could provide no further details.
