Vuokatti Ski Team Kainuu won the skiing Finland Cup relay race in Rovaniemi on the final weekend. At the same time, the team won the relay cup. Eveliina Piipo has had a successful week.
Vuokatti Ski Team Kainuu convincingly won the relay cup of the Finnish Cup of women’s skiing. The victory was secured when the team won the last relay race in Rovaniemi almost in show style. The most interesting struggle of the competition was seen in the second leg, when the national team skiers, Vantaa Ski Association Jasmi Joensuu and Vuokatti Eveliina Piippokept pace at the top.
– It was a nice surprise when Jasmi was in the second part. It was a really good race. My leg was a little weak in it, Piippo, who skied the second section of Vuokatti, said after the section.
Vuokatti skied the opening section Vilma Nissinen and the anchor part Jasmin Kähärä.
Earlier this week, Piippo skied to victory in the traditional Lapponian skiing in Olos. A total of 190 kilometers were skied in Lapland: 60 km on Tuesday, 50 km on Wednesday and 90 km on Friday. Piipo’s combined time was 8.15.41.0. The runner-up in the women’s Lapponia race was Kerttu Niskanen (+2.28,9) and third Krista Pärmäkoski (+18.44,4).
Men’s Lapponia won Remi Lindholm with a time of 7:43:06.4 ahead of the German Thomas Bing (+39.9) and Kari Varista (+1.56,4). Leading the overall race Iivo Niskanen did not start for the third leg.
Piippo, who came directly from Lapland to the Rovaniemi relay, did not trust his speed against Joensuu before the race.
– I told Jasmi when I saw him there that you had caught me by the first corner, I don’t have enough fast cells for this trip today, Piippo laughed after the section.
The performance was still strong, as Piippo and Joensuu ran away from the others by more than 40 seconds, while Joensuu had first skied to catch Piippo’s 12-second lead.
Before today’s message, Piipo was asked how he feels in his body.
– Well, the kind that luckily has fast weather.
Piippo stated that Lapponia was “really a skiing race” this year.
– Yes, hibernation is needed here next week.
Vuokatti controlled the message from the beginning
In the opening section, Vilma Nissinen from Vuokatti was able to break up the main group and only Tampere’s Pyrinnön Fanny Kukonlehto could follow from Nissi. The national team skiers, who excelled in the second leg, widened the gap to the others, and finally Vuokatti’s anchor Jasmin Kähärä solved the competition in the final leg and escaped to Vantaa From Marjaana Pitkäinen at the beginning of the section.
Anchor of the Kainuu Ski Club Anne Kyllönen caught up with Pitkänen at the end of the section and lifted the Kainuu Skiing Club to second place. Pitkänen brought the Vantaa Ski Club to the finish line in third place.
Vuokatti won the relay cup with 840 total points. Kainuu Ski Club was second with 760 points and Vantaa Ski Club was third with 650 points. Piippo summed up this season’s Relay Cup directly in his style after the competition.
– More interesting than last year. We were so miserable at the beginning of winter that we really had to make some posture moves for this spring, Piippo said with a smile on his face.
